Web citations in
GB/T 7714 format
Websites and web pages use the type code [EB/OL] in GB/T 7714. GB/T 7714 is the Chinese national standard for references, used by Chinese journals and universities. As you read, Quick flomo gets the title, author and date from the page, builds the citation in this format and sends it to flomo with your note.
How a web citation is written
Under GB/T 7714-2025, websites and web pages use the document type code EB and the medium code OL. Include the citation date and the access path. Point the path to the specific page, not the platform's home page.
If there is no personal author, you can use the publishing body. If the page doesn't show a date, leave out the date in parentheses. The citation date stays.
Author. Title[EB/OL]. (Creation or modification date)[Citation date]. Access path.
Francis Bacon. The Essays or Counsels, Civil and Moral[EB/OL]. [2026-11-07]. https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/575.
Main author.Title[EB/OL].(Update or modification date)[Citation date].Access path.

How the 2025 and 2015 versions differ
| Item | 2015 version | 2025 version |
|---|---|---|
| What EB means | Electronic bulletin | Websites and web pages |
| Dates | Bulletin date, update date, citation date | Creation or modification date, citation date |
| Identifiers | Digital Object Identifier (DOI) | Permanent identifiers, such as DOI or CSTR |
| Books, journals and the like in web form | Treated as electronic resources | Cited by their own document type. Only the rest count as websites and web pages. |
| Status | Replaced | Published 2025-12-02, in effect 2026-07-01 |
This summary is based on explanations from university libraries and journal editorial offices. If a school or journal has its own rules, follow those.
Three things the extension does for you
- No copying fields. The title, URL, author and publication date are read from the current page. If a page gives the wrong details, enter them by hand in the free citation generator.
- No punctuation to remember. It makes 2015 citations.
- No hunting for sources. The citation goes into flomo with your summary and thoughts, so you can search for it when you write.
This is a Pro feature. If you only cite a web page now and then, the free generator is enough.
It only handles web pages
Quick flomo and the generator only output the [EB/OL] format. Journal articles, books and theses need their own document type. Use a reference manager such as Zotero, or check your school's writing guide.
Questions about web citations
EB is the document type. In the 2025 version it means websites and web pages. OL is the medium type and means online networks. Together they mark an online web resource.
Use the date you viewed the page, in the format YYYY-MM-DD. It is not the same as the publication date the page shows. If both exist, include both.
Use the publishing body if there is one. If there is truly no responsible person, start the citation with the title.
The 2025 version has been in effect since July 1, 2026. Your school's and journal's rules come first, though. Check their format guide before you submit a paper.
